Brandon Blumenherst is a Democratic candidate for the Wayne Township Board in the upcoming Democratic primary election on May 5, 2026. He wants to bring a new perspective to the township board that hasn't changed in 16 years by working to make township government more accessible and strengthening assistance programs to meet today's challenges with urgency and care.

About Brandon Blumenherst
I’m running for the Wayne Township Board to make a direct impact on our community. With years of experience in civic engagement, including working on local campaigns, I’m committed to creating positive change in Fort Wayne. If elected, I’ll make history as the youngest, only union member, and one of the first out LGBTQ+ elected officials in Allen County.

Take Action
What I Want to Do When I'm Elected
Make Township Government More Accessible
I want to make our township government easier to access and easier to understand. That starts with evaluating how we expand and promote township services so more residents know what’s available to them. We should explore satellite offices, flexible hours, and an online intake process so people don’t have to take time off work just to complete paperwork before coming in for an interview. Access should meet people where they are.
Strengthen and Improve Township Programs
Township programs play a critical role in keeping people housed, utilities on, and families stable. They are working — but we should always be looking for ways to make them stronger. By bringing a thoughtful, analytical approach to evaluating our services, we can identify opportunities to improve efficiency, expand impact, and ensure we’re helping as many residents as possible in today’s increasingly challenging economy.
Promote, Educate, and Advocate: Township Government
Township government is the level closest to the people — yet many residents don’t fully understand what it does or how it can help. We need active board members who prioritize outreach, promote available services, and educate the public about available resources. At the same time, we must advocate for this level of government as it faces ongoing pressure at the Statehouse.
Bring A New Perspective to a Board that Hasn't Changed in 16 Years
Experience matters, and I respect the service of those who have served Wayne Township. But a board that hasn’t changed in 16 years will benefit from new ideas and renewed energy. It’s time to evaluate what’s working, pilot innovative solutions, and ensure we’re making the most efficient, effective, and equitable use of taxpayer dollars.
